TRASHY DIVA GIVES BACK: 2015 RECAP

2015 has been a big year for Trashy Diva. With our label growing more by the day, we’ve had more opportunities than ever before to give back to the community in several different ways. Whether it’s donating a dress for an auction, volunteering with an organization for a day, or sponsoring an event, all the Divas love participating in something good! Let’s take a look back at all the ways in which Trashy Diva gave back to the community this year:

First, we got involved with the Cinderella Project. The mission of the Cinderella Project is to support young women with resources that may not exist to them otherwise. Trashy Diva took part in hosting a dress drive within our boutiques and accepted donations of used formal dresses for the Cinderella Project. The group then distributed the dresses all across Louisiana to girls who didn’t have dresses for prom.

After Mardi Gras, Diva Amelia spent a day with Arc of Greater New Orleans and helped sort and bag Mardi Gras beads. These beads were then to be donated or bought by krewes for parade throws. Arc is a resource center for adults and children with mental and developmental disabilities. They provide various services throughout the community including employment and habitation, living assistance, and more. In fact, most of the employees who work at the Mardi Gras Bead Recycling Center have some type of developmental disability and take great pride in being able to hold a full-time job with the center. It was awesome for Amelia to spend a day in such a great environment!

Trashy Diva had the chance to sponsor several events and galas this year as well! This in turn allowed a group of us Divas to enjoy a night out sipping cocktails while enjoying the company of wonderful people from all over the city.

A few of my most memorable evenings involved spending time at the Audubon Aquarium’s Scales and Ales event as well as the Louisiana Children’s Museum’s Chairish the Children Auction Gala. Scales and Ales proceeds benefited the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas’ valuable work in education and conservation, including the Louisiana Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Rescue Program and the Junior Naturalists and AquaKids youth programs. Chairish the Children benefited the educational programming and exhibits of the Louisiana Children’s Museum – always a worthy (and fun) cause!

Let’s not forget how much fun Divas Cali and Amelia had representing Trashy Diva at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art’s Magnolia Ball! Sponsoring the museum, this event featured complimentary cocktails and food offerings from restaurants around New Orleans as well as a live auction.

Rounding out our sponsored events was the Wine, Dine, and Design event held by St. Charles Avenue magazine. This event aided Operation Homefront, which provides financial and other forms of assistance to wounded soldiers and service members. It was really fun decorating a table with a certain theme. Our picnic theme was a crowd favorite!

Going into the holiday season, we wanted to incorporate ways to give back to those around us who may not be fortunate enough to have dinner on their table or a gift under their tree. For our company holiday party, we ordered catering from Cafe Reconcile, which is a nonprofit restaurant located in New Orleans. Cafe Reconcile is ran by a group of concerned people who are committed to addressing the system of generational poverty, violence and neglect in the New Orleans area. Their innovative life skills and job training program assists young people from severely at-risk communities who desire to make a positive change in their lives.

We also worked as a group to fill stockings with goodies for Operation Christmas Child. As a company, Trashy Diva filled 30 stockings with small gifts for children and sent them to Samaritan’s Purse to be distributed worldwide by Operation Christmas Child.

As this year comes to a close, we are excited to see what opportunities 2016 holds for Trashy Diva to give back. If you or someone you know are affiliated with an organization or event that you think would be a good fit for us, please hop over to our Trashy Diva Gives Back page and send us all of the information. We look forward to hearing from you!
