Allow me to introduce you to my new favorite special occasion dress – the Bitsy Belle! If you’re thinking that this dress looks familiar, you’re right. With the split neckline from our original Bitsy Dress and the gathered A-line skirt from the Cutie Dress, this melding of the two brings together both of my favorite parts of these separate styles! This dress also brings together the style of the 1960s with a dash of ‘50s fun! Let’s take a look at the various styles that inspired this adorable silhouette:
Jackie O is sporting a similar cut in this photo, while touring the Palace of the Maharajah in Udaipur, India, during the 1960’s.
In the 1950’s, dresses cut above the knee were practically unheard of, but as we transitioned into the ’60’s, hemlines starting inching up and styles that showed more skin became more acceptable. This is where we begin to see the split neckline show off just a hint of skin.
If you check out this 1960’s Valentino pattern you can see that while it does have a similar silhouette, the Bitsy Belle maintains a fitted waist with a fuller skirt that’s more reminiscent of the ’50’s!
And in blue and white seersucker, the Bitsy Belle easily transitions into spring and summer! Pair it with sandals and sunglasses for a warm weather-ready look. Try the Chelsea Crew Samson Sandal in pink nubuck and the AJ Morgan Hopper Sunglasses in champagne.
